Good Mental Health isn’t a Destination
Everyone is looking for a secret. The secret to life, success, having an attractive body or whatever else. I looked for it myself for years. But what I found to be true is that there is no secret.
This is especially true for mental health. I looked for the secret ingredient that would cure me. Take all my problems away and leave me with the perfect life.
After 22 years of searching, this is the truth: it all depends on work. Work on yourself, your inner world, your outer world, and the habits you create. Here is an example.
I have received over 10 years of therapy with three different therapists. Each helped, but once I graduated therapy, I thought the work was over. I was healed, cured, and the work on myself was over. But I was wrong. Therapy simply allows you to get back into life and start doing the heavy lifting of building your life back. Therapy isn’t the end, but merely the foundation for all the success you will build thereafter.
Good mental health is something you work on every day. It’s like building a house that is slowly degrading every day. The only way to keep that house from falling apart is working on it every day. Because good mental health isn’t a destination, but a body of work you continuously build day in and day out.
If you’re looking for a secret, stop. Start by reaching out for help if needed. Work on that project, hobby, or dream you keep putting off. Start putting in daily work. I have found that this is the secret. Nothing flashy. Work that goes unseen yet sets the stage for all success. Start today and never stop.
